Balwyn North to Yarra Bvd

I had started out with St.Kilda as the destination but had to turn back when it became apparent I would not be able to locate it and return home before dark.

Cycled from Birdwood St- Burke Rd- Belmore Rd- High St-Power St- Swan St- Yarra Bvd-WilliamsRd- Toorak Rd-- then turned back. Stopped by the historical Como Park (built in mid-19th century, an amphitheater park built over a billabong) and visited the Como Historical House (early 19th century house and implements) n Gardens (which has the oldest tree found on the Yarra River, the Sweet Bursaria, fenced by an electric fence- it does smell sweet). Dropped in on a game of lawn bowling at the Kew Heights Sports Club where groups of people were having a game over beer and cheese & crackers.

Along the Main Yarra Trail, a 33km dedicated bike/walking trail snaking along the Yarra River, funded by the local council, numerous cyclists rode past me and it seemed Melbourne is a city of trails and parks where there are always people of all ages (most notably people who are past school going age and of the age where they should be gainfully employed) enjoying the outdoors at all times of the day. Maybe an appreciation of the outdoors is such an integral part of the lifestyle of Melburnians that it is quite normal to take leave just to enjoy the city on a work day, for some I suspect, the enjoyment in just knowing that everyone else is slogging away at work.
As I navigated my way from a hand scribbled sketch map, getting disorientated and side-tracked was to be expected. More than once I had relied on my Garmin Forerunner 205 ("Go to" function) to point the direction home.
